The Dynamic Duo Behind McMahon & Hill: Part 1

In the world of thoroughbred racing and bloodstock, success often hinges on the expertise, vision, and dedication of the people behind the scenes. At McMahon & Hill Bloodstock, these qualities are personified by its founders, Mike McMahon and Jamie Hill. Together, they have built a reputation for excellence, integrity, and

innovation in the bloodstock industry.

Meet Mike McMahon: A Legacy of Leadership and Passion

Mike's journey in the thoroughbred industry is a tale of dedication, expertise, and relentless passion. Growing up immersed in the equine world at his family's McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, Mike developed a profound understanding and love for horses. This early exposure paved the way for his lifelong career in horse racing and breeding.

Early Years and Education

Mike's academic and practical experiences laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors. After graduating from Cornell University with a degree in Business Management and Marketing, Mike honed his skills at the Saratoga Racecourse under Hall of Fame trainer Scotty Schulhofer. His pursuit of excellence took him to Ireland, where he completed the prestigious Irish National Stud Program, finishing second in his class.

Building a Legacy

In 2000, Mike, alongside his wife Dr. Natanya Nieman DVM, founded McMahon Bloodstock LLC. Their vision led them to acquire Spruce Lane Farm in 2005, which became a hub for their growing broodmare band, layups, and pinhooks in Versailles, KY. Mike's entrepreneurial spirit didn't stop there; in 2011, he partnered with Jamie Hill to establish McMahon and Hill Bloodstock LLC.

Industry Contributions and Achievements

Mike's influence extends beyond his businesses. He played a crucial role in bringing New York's first Kentucky Derby Winner, Funny Cide, to Saratoga Springs. As President of the NY Thoroughbred Breeders from 2000 to 2008, Mike successfully lobbied for a greater share of VLT revenue for the state’s breeders, demonstrating his advocacy and leadership skills.

His contributions have been widely recognized. Named to the Thoroughbred Times "40 under 40," Mike has served on the boards of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association and the Belmont Child Care Association. Currently, he presides over the Thoroughbred Charities of America and the Cornell University Class of 1993. Under his leadership, the TCA has raised an average of $700,000 annually, supporting charities dedicated to thoroughbred horse people and their horses.

A Lifelong Entrepreneur

Mike's entrepreneurial journey is marked by numerous partnerships and co-ownership groups. Through McMahon and Hill Bloodstock LLC, he has been instrumental in the success of over one hundred horses, achieving Graded Stakes victories and making a significant impact in the thoroughbred industry.
