This weekend, Bourbon Thief added another win to her growing list of accomplishments, marking her second career victory and raising her total earnings to an impressive $179,000 from just seven starts. Consistently on the board in five of those starts, this 4-year-old filly continues to improve and is really coming into herself.

The Victory
In a competitive allowance race at Gulfstream Park, Bourbon Thief showed her class and determination. Chasing from midpack early on, she followed the pacesetter closely and kept a cool head. As they turned for home, Bourbon Thief made a decisive move, ducking inside and accelerating to pass the leaders, kicking away to win by a comfortable ¾ length.
Ian Wilkes’ Training
Bourbon Thief’s impressive win would not be possible without the expert guidance of trainer Ian Wilkes. This victory marks his eighth win from 49 starts, and his horses have received numerous Best Turned Out awards.
With this win, Bourbon Thief became the third winner for Ian at the Gulfstream Park Championship meet, a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication. It’s clear that Ian Wilkes is building something special at his barn, and Bourbon Thief is a prime example of that success.
Pedigree
Bourbon Thief is by the 2017 Belmont Stakes winner Tapwrit, known for his stamina and durability, and out of an Uncle Mo mare -- combining speed and stamina in a winning package.
Purchased for $67,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton October Yearling Sale, Bourbon Thief was acquired in partnership with Selima Holdings and consigned by Gainesway.
What’s Next?
As the barn prepares to return to Churchill Downs at the end of March, we’re excited for what the future holds for this promising filly and the rest of our barn. Stay tuned for more updates on this incredible talent as she continues to shine on the track!
