The Ocala Breeders' Sales April 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale has long been known for uncovering future stars—and this year, McMahon & Hill Bloodstock wrapped up another successful edition with eight horses sold and two exciting new additions.

A Top Seller Headlines Our Consignments

Leading the charge on the sales front was one of the standout fillies of the entire sale. In partnership with Hidden Brook, we had acquired a powerful daughter of Constitution for $215,000 at the Fasig-Tipton October Yearling Sale. Just six months later, that same filly commanded $675,000 at OBS. Strategic pinhooks like this are what we pride ourselves on—seeing the potential, developing the horse, and realizing strong returns for our partners.

New Ocala Training Division Makes a Winning Debut

This sale also marked a milestone for our team: for the first time, McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds consigned and trained horses from their new Ocala division which has been a major collaboration between Mike and his father Joe. The debut couldn’t have gone better. We sold six McMahon Thoroughbreds-bred juveniles, led by a sharp Combatant filly who brought $135,000. Congratulations to our dedicated home team on a strong and successful first run. The Ocala base is officially open for business and already proving its value.

Smart Buys for Big Ambitions

On the purchasing side, we were selective and deliberate—securing just two horses, but both with exceptional upside.

First, we acquired Hip 66 for $180,000 on behalf of MyWay Racing, longtime clients and the proud owners of graded stakes winner El Potente, another McMahon & Hill graduate. This colt will head to the barn of Dan Blacker, who capped a breakout 2024 season with a Breeders’ Cup win and continues to climb the ranks.

Then, late in the sale, we secured a flashy Charlatan filly for $100,000—Hip 960—for Jim Gladden and Bourbon Lane. Holding out for the right opportunity proved worthwhile. This filly checks all the boxes and will head to the red-hot Ian Wilkes barn, who will be making an appearance in the 2025 Kentucky Derby and winning at an impressive clip. This is a partnership we’re truly excited about, and it’s still open for new partners. If you’re interested in joining a stable with real momentum, now’s the time to reach out.

Looking Ahead

As we wrap OBS April, we’re energized by the results and even more excited for what’s to come. With smart sales, promising new purchases, and a growing presence in Ocala, McMahon & Hill Bloodstock continues to raise the bar for our partners and clients.
